The bodies of four elderly individuals of Indian descent, who had been reported missing during a pilgrimage in West Virginia, were recovered on Saturday. Marshall County Sheriff Mike Doherty confirmed the tragic discovery on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Kishore Diwan (89), Asha Diwan (85), Shailesh Diwan (86), and Geeta Diwan (84). They were en route from Buffalo to Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold in Marshall County, traveling in a 2009 green Toyota Camry with New York license plate EKW2611. The sheriff’s department stated that all four died in a vehicle accident. The vehicle and the bodies were found at the bottom of a steep embankment along Big Wheeling Creek Road around 9:30 PM on Saturday. Rescue teams were at the scene for approximately five hours. Sheriff Doherty extended condolences to the families and indicated that further information would be released after the investigation is complete. The family was last seen on July 29 at a Burger King in Pennsylvania, en route to Mountsville, West Virginia, via Pittsburgh. Law enforcement from Marshall and Ohio County participated in the search, with the vehicle’s information also entered into the National Crime Information Center. A missing persons report was filed in Buffalo. The Council of Heritage and Arts of India (CHAI), a voluntary organization based in Williamsville, New York, assisted in the search efforts. Sibu Nair, the organization’s president, expressed concern and offered prayers for their safe return.
