Four Injured as Knife Assault Shocks Religious Service in South‑East Poland

A mass in a historic Catholic monastery in Jaroslaw turned into a scene of terror when a lone attacker used a large knife to strike five people. The victims included three priests, a male parishioner, and a female attendee. One of the priests later succumbed to his injuries, while the remaining four were hospitalized, three of them with severe trauma.

Authorities arrived at the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. and secured the area. The suspect, identified as a Ukrainian national, was apprehended without further incident. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements to determine the cause of the violent outburst.

The monastery, dating back to the early 17th century, houses a church built between 1614 and 1624. It survived wartime damage and was restored in the post‑war period.
