Four Soldiers and Many Civilians Unaccounted After Rasuwa Flood

KATHMANDU, Aug 26 — Flash flooding in Rasuwa has left a trail of devastation, claiming seven lives and prompting a large‑scale search for missing people. Police have recovered four bodies in Nuwakot and three in Dhading. Two injured victims are currently receiving medical care in Kathmandu, said DIG Deepak Regmi.

Rescue agencies have so far evacuated 25 individuals, employing 14 helicopters for aerial reconnaissance and casualty extraction.

Four armed police soldiers stationed at a border outpost were swept away by the flood. Deputy Inspector General Netra Bahadur Karki confirmed that the outpost sustained no structural damage, but contact with the troops has been lost since the incident.

Additional unverified reports indicate that 14 customs officials and 32 soldiers are also missing, highlighting the breadth of the emergency.

In Nuwakot, the flood inundated roughly 60 homes near the Trishuli market and destroyed two bridges, compounding the humanitarian crisis.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah held talks with federal MPs from the affected regions—Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan—to review damage assessments, prioritize relief deliveries and coordinate ongoing rescue operations.
