Two years after the horrific Hamas attack at the Supernova music festival, where he lost his girlfriend, Roei Shalev, a survivor of the massacre, has tragically died by suicide. Shalev, 25, was found dead in a burning car near Netanya, an incident captured on CCTV showing him filling a fuel canister shortly before. This devastating event marks a profound personal loss, compounding the trauma he experienced on that fateful day.
In his final moments, Shalev shared a poignant message on Instagram, describing an unbearable inner pain and a sense of hopelessness. He articulated that the emotional suffering stemming from the loss of his girlfriend, Mapal Adam, had become too great to endure. “I’m burning inside, and I can’t contain it anymore,” his words conveyed the depth of his despair.
Mapal Adam was one of the approximately 1,200 people, primarily civilians, killed during the October 7th attacks. Her sister, TV presenter Maayan Adam, recounted Mapal’s terrifying final texts, describing a “massacre” and bullets hitting her. The trauma of that day had far-reaching consequences; Shalev’s mother also tragically died by suicide shortly after the attack, reportedly by setting her car ablaze, highlighting the devastating ripple effect of the violence.
The October 7th attack saw thousands of Hamas-led militants infiltrate southern Israel, launching widespread assaults on communities and the Supernova festival. This invasion resulted in the capture of 251 individuals, with 48 still held in Gaza, significantly impacting the ongoing conflict and diplomatic efforts.
