Following the release on bail of Khalistani separatist Inderjeet Singh Gosal in Canada, proscribed SFJ leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun issued threats. In a video message, Pannun directly addressed India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, challenging him to come to Canada, America, or any European country to attempt an arrest or extradition. In the same video, Gosal declared his support for Pannun and announced the intention to organize the Khalistan referendum on November 23, 2025, with the slogan “Delhi banega Khalistan.” Gosal was released from the Ontario Central East Correctional Centre after a week. According to reports, Canadian police had previously arrested Gosal on firearms charges. He is considered an associate of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, another Khalistani terrorist who was killed in British Columbia in June 2023. Nijjar’s death led to a diplomatic standoff between India and Canada. Pannun, who leads the SFJ, was designated a “individual terrorist” by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs in July 2020 and faces multiple terror charges. These developments come as Canada’s new leadership, under Prime Minister Mark Carney, has sought to stabilize relations with India. Recently, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held talks in New Delhi with his Canadian counterpart Nathalie Drouin.
