New Gyalseen Hospital inaugurated as India‑Bhutan health partnership deepens

Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and his Bhutanese counterpart, Lyonpo Dinesh N. Dhungyel, opened the 65‑bed Gyalseen Jetsun Pema Mother & Child Hospital in Mongar on Wednesday. The facility is designed to deliver high‑quality maternal and neonatal care to the eastern region of Bhutan.

Jaishankar highlighted that the hospital reflects a shared commitment to strengthening health infrastructure and improving outcomes for mothers and infants. The project was funded under India’s development assistance programme and illustrates the strategic health collaboration between New Delhi and Thimphu.

Officials expect the hospital to reduce travel time for critical patients, enhance training for local medical staff, and serve as a model for future joint health initiatives.
