Health Experts Warn of Rapid Dengue Spread Beyond Dhaka

Public‑health specialists caution that hospital data alone does not reveal the full geographic extent of the outbreak, since severe cases from districts are often referred to Dhaka. The highest number of deaths this year—80—have been recorded in the capital, followed by Khulna (32), Maymanshing (18), Chattogram (16), Barisal (13), Rajshahi (8), Rangpur (3) and Sylhet (1). Former Director of Disease Control, Prof. Be‑Nazir Ahmed, stressed that fogging is insufficient. He urged identification and elimination of Aedes breeding sites, rapid diagnosis and timely treatment to curb severe disease and fatalities.
