Health officials warn of worsening dengue situation across all districts

Dhaka, September 14 – Bangladesh is confronting an escalating dengue crisis that now spans every one of its 64 districts. The Directorate General of Health Services reported that, as of last Sunday, 149 people have died from the infection and more than 51,800 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.

Experts say the surge is driven by delayed hospital access, incorrect medical management, and heightened risk among certain demographic groups. Associate Professor H.M. Najmul Ahsan highlighted that the virus's rapid spread, patient susceptibility, and complications during care are the three pillars fueling the death toll.

Public‑health strategist Mushtuq Hussain advocated for a three‑tiered healthcare delivery model—primary, secondary and tertiary—to handle the caseload efficiently. Meanwhile, State Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salawuddin Tuku issued a stark warning: dengue cases are likely to climb further in Dhaka and other districts over the coming months.

Local media confirm that mosquito‑borne transmission is now pervasive, with hundreds of new admissions each day. Health officials anticipate that the outbreak could intensify toward the end of September and early October, especially in at least 15 districts where infection rates are projected to rise.

The government has been urged to strengthen coordination, improve vector‑control measures, and increase public awareness to prevent additional fatalities.
