A devastating incident in southern Brazil resulted in the deaths of eight individuals after a hot-air balloon caught fire mid-air and plummeted to the ground. The accident occurred in the scenic tourist region of Praia Grande, Santa Catarina, known for its canyon landscapes. The balloon, carrying a total of 21 people, including the pilot, encountered a mid-air fire shortly after 8 am local time, according to local authorities. Thirteen survivors were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Rescue operations involving firefighters and emergency vehicles were immediately initiated, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families and assured support from federal and state agencies.
