Human Rights Violations Against Ahmadis Escalate, UN Calls for Action

UN experts expressed deep concern over the deteriorating human‑rights climate for Ahmadis in Pakistan. They cited a surge in violent incidents, from attacks on mosques and community centres to the destruction of burial sites, often accompanied by hate‑filled rhetoric from public figures.

The panel warned that the pattern of discrimination violates several international covenants, including the right to freedom of religion, freedom of expression and the right to equality before the law. They called for swift, transparent investigations into each allegation, and for victims to receive legal assistance and protection.

Furthermore, the experts urged Pakistan to align its domestic legislation with global human‑rights standards, reviewing statutes that restrict religious freedom, speech, assembly and cultural expression, and to ensure that minority communities are afforded equal protection under the law.
