Bruna Ferreira, a woman with ties to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Ferreira, who was previously engaged to Leavitt’s brother, Michael, was reportedly taken into custody while en route to pick up her 11-year-old son. Her attorney, Todd Pomerleau, described the arrest as unconstitutional and unwarranted, stating Ferreira was moved through several states after her detention. Pomerleau emphasized that Ferreira is a tax-paying business owner and not a danger or flight risk. Ferreira, who came to the U.S. from Brazil as a young child, had applied for the DACA program and was in the process of seeking a green card. Department of Homeland Security records indicate she entered on a tourist visa and overstayed. Her attorney disputes an alleged prior arrest for battery, noting no such record has been found through extensive searches. Court documents do show minor motor vehicle violations from 2020. The situation highlights complex immigration proceedings and the legal challenges faced by individuals in similar circumstances.
