Zamir’s stance reflects the sentiment of a majority of Israelis who are seeking a comprehensive agreement that secures the release of hostages and ends the ongoing conflict. Simultaneously, military plans for the occupation of Gaza City, including heavy bombardment and displacement of residents, were approved by Defence Minister Israel Katz. The conflict in Gaza has resulted in a significant number of Palestinian casualties since October 2023, and international agencies have warned of potential famine in the region.
