Inderjit Singh Gosal, a prominent figure within the Khalistani movement and a close associate of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has been apprehended in Canada. The arrest, which occurred in Ottawa, involved charges related to the possession of firearms. This event followed closely after discussions between the National Security Advisors (NSAs) of India and Canada. Indian NSA Ajit Doval and Canadian NSA Nathalie Drouin convened in New Delhi, where they agreed to explore collaborative efforts to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in the realm of counter-terrorism and addressing transnational crime. Gosal, aged 36, is considered a key organizer for SFJ in Canada, stepping up after the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023. He was previously arrested in November regarding a violent incident at a Hindu temple in the GTA, facing charges of assaulting Hindu-Canadian worshippers. Police reports indicate that Gosal was among those allegedly notified of threats to their lives in August 2022. Pannun confirmed that Canadian authorities had issued a “duty to warn” notice to Gosal. Gosal himself had stated that he had been advised of threats to his life by Canadian officials, yet he remained committed to the Khalistani session plan for Punjab.
