India has significantly enhanced its defense capabilities with the US approval of two major arms deals totaling USD 93 million. These acquisitions are set to transform the Indian Army into a formidable precision-strike force, capable of neutralizing armored threats with unprecedented accuracy and speed. The approved sales include the advanced FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile system and the M982A1 Excalibur precision-guided artillery rounds. The Javelin system, renowned for its ‘fire-and-forget’ capability, will provide Indian soldiers with the ability to engage enemy tanks from over two kilometers away, safely retreating while the missile autonomously guides itself to the target. The Excalibur rounds offer laser-like accuracy, enabling artillery units to strike distant targets with surgical precision. These acquisitions not only bolster India’s defensive posture against existing and future threats but also deepen the strategic alliance between the US and India. With these potent new weapons bolstering its arsenal, India’s conventional deterrence is poised for a significant upgrade, potentially altering the strategic balance in the region.
