India Funds Fruit‑Processing Facility in Suriname Under SME Grant

In May, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar inaugurated a fruit‑processing plant in Paramaribo, a project financed by a $1 million Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) grant announced by India for 2025.

The facility, equipped with machinery supplied by India, is expected to boost local agriculture, create jobs and increase export potential for Surinamese produce. Minister Jaishankar stressed that the initiative exemplifies India’s message to the Global South: partnership that translates into real‑world benefits.

He reiterated India’s commitment to the principle of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" – the world as one family – stating that such projects move the sentiment from rhetoric to action.

The plant’s launch marks another milestone in the expanding economic cooperation between the two nations.
