The Indian Embassy in Iran has issued a travel advisory, urging Indian citizens to postpone non-essential travel to the country. This advisory is a direct response to escalating security concerns that have emerged in the region over the past several weeks. The embassy advised Indian nationals to remain vigilant and closely monitor the evolving situation. For those already in Iran and seeking to leave, the embassy indicated that commercial flights and ferry options are available. This advisory comes after a period of escalating conflict. Israel initiated ‘Operation Rising Lion’ on June 13, targeting Iranian military and nuclear sites, leading to retaliatory strikes from Iran. The United States also retaliated, targeting key Iranian nuclear facilities. The conflict ended with a unilateral halt declared by Israel on June 24. Discussions around Iran’s nuclear program are ongoing, with the US expressing concerns and Iran maintaining its program is for civilian purposes. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) signed in 2015, was meant to limit Iran’s nuclear activities. The agreement collapsed in 2018 after the US withdrew. Since then, Iran has increased its uranium enrichment and recently suspended cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
