On September 21, officials confirmed that the India‑New Zealand FTA will commence on October 20, aligning with the celebration of Dashera. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon posted on X that the agreement fulfills a three‑year promise to secure a free‑trade pact during his first term. The agreement eliminates most import duties on Indian goods headed for New Zealand and opens extensive market opportunities for services. Commerce Minister Goyal emphasized that the treaty is not limited to goods; it expands cooperation in education, sports, cultural exchange, agricultural productivity, and tech innovation. Both countries anticipate accelerated business activity, higher export volumes, and a surge in employment prospects.
