India‑Sri Lanka Health Cooperation Strengthened by New Water Purification Facility

In a symbolic gesture of friendship, India presented a reverse osmosis water purification plant to Sri Lanka's Monaragala District General Hospital. The inauguration, led by Acting High Commissioner Maitreyi Kulkarni, took place on Saturday and was attended by Deputy Minister R.M. Jayawardane.

The plant, funded by a donation from the Indian people, will provide safe drinking water to patients, staff and visitors, addressing a critical need for clean water in the healthcare environment. The Indian Embassy in Hambantota highlighted that the gift reinforces the long‑standing health collaboration between the two nations.

Earlier in the week, Kulkarni met Governor Professor Susiripala Manavadu to review bilateral projects in the Southern Province, emphasizing cultural, educational and people‑to‑people initiatives. Both parties discussed expanding cooperation in the health sector and other strategic areas.

Separately, Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha co‑chaired the 41st board meeting of the India‑Sri Lanka Foundation in New Delhi, where board members examined current activities and explored new project ideas to deepen ties in education, culture, science, technology and beyond.
