India‑Uzbekistan Leaders Plant Tree in Symbolic Green Initiative

During a state visit to Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev jointly planted a sapling at the Presidential Palace in Tashkent. The tree‑planting ceremony marked the launch of India’s “One Tree, Mother Earth” campaign alongside Uzbekistan’s “Yashil Makon” green initiative.

The event followed Modi’s tour of the Mahatma Gandhi Centre and his homage to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at the Shastri Memorial. Both leaders highlighted the importance of environmental cooperation as part of a broader agenda that includes trade, defence, digital services, and academic exchange.

In recognition of his role in deepening friendship between the two countries, President Mirziyoyev awarded Modi the highest Uzbek honor, “Oliy Darajali Dostlik.”
