MIGA Guarantees and Private Capital to Power India’s Tourism Push

In a joint declaration, India and the World Bank Group announced plans to craft a competitive tourism destination framework under the new country partnership arrangement. The scheme will integrate policy support from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), private‑sector financing from IFC and guarantee instruments from MIGA.

The proposed model aims to create a coordinated ecosystem that reduces risk for investors, encourages private capital flows, and leverages World Bank technical expertise. By aligning tourism development with broader infrastructure goals, the partnership hopes to position India as a top global travel hub.

Sitharaman highlighted how the initiative will complement existing efforts to modernise transportation, hospitality and digital services, while Banga pointed to the World Bank Group’s experience in scaling tourism projects worldwide.

The agreement also calls for knowledge sharing, innovation hubs and capacity‑building programs to ensure that tourism growth is sustainable, inclusive and digitally enabled.
