Indian Air Force delivers emergency supplies to Nepal following August 26 deluge

New Delhi, August 29 – In the wake of the catastrophic floods that hit Nepal’s Bhotekoshi area on August 26, 2026, the Indian Air Force has been at the forefront of the humanitarian response. Three aircraft have already landed in Kathmandu with a total of 57.5 metric tonnes of relief aid.

On the day of the disaster, a C‑130J Hercules dropped 10 tonnes of critical items, including temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lanterns and medicines. The next morning, a C‑17 Globemaster delivered an additional 37.5 tonnes comprising 28.5 tonnes of tents and related equipment, 8 tonnes of medicines and 1 tonne of food supplies.

A third sortie on August 28 air‑lifted a five‑member tunnel‑rescue team, a six‑member medical team and 10 tonnes of extra material such as portable generators, dignity kits and water‑purification tablets. The same flight also carried a 13‑person specialised rescue unit and forensic experts to assist with DNA identification of victims.

A fourth C‑130J, slated for departure today, will transport more rescue personnel, technical gear and likely additional relief cargo. Alongside the airlift, India has positioned a belly‑bridge and technical crews to restore communication lines in the hardest‑hit zones.

These coordinated air operations, combined with the deployment of the National Disaster Response Force, illustrate India’s commitment to rapid, on‑ground assistance for Nepal’s flood‑affected communities.
