India’s ‘Neighbour First’ Policy Reinforced During Sri Lanka Visit

During a week‑long visit to Sri Lanka in early August, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reiterated New Delhi’s commitment under the ‘Neighbour First’ doctrine and the Vision Ocean initiative. He met President Anura Kumar Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Aruni Ranraja, as well as opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and leaders of the Tamil communities in Sri Lanka and India. The dialogue covered ongoing bilateral projects, trade prospects, and security cooperation, with both sides agreeing to expand joint ventures in renewable energy, maritime surveillance and cultural exchange.
