International Community Asked to Support Nepal’s Recovery and Climate Resilience

Kathmandu, 7 September – President Ram Chandra Paudel called on world leaders to provide robust assistance for Nepal’s recovery after the deadly Bhote Koshi flood, which devastated homes, roads, bridges and vital infrastructure. The calamity, which struck on 26 August, resulted in over a thousand deaths and thousands more missing.

In his national address, Paudel highlighted that the flood is a manifestation of the escalating risks associated with global warming. He urged the international community to heed the pleas of Nepal and other high‑altitude nations facing similar threats.

The president outlined a roadmap for rebuilding that includes revisiting the country's development strategy to prioritize climate‑smart growth, resilient construction, and socioeconomic upliftment of affected communities. He stressed that reconstruction must be coupled with long‑term climate adaptation and mitigation initiatives.

Paudel thanked neighboring states and global partners for their swift deployment of search‑and‑rescue teams, technical advisors, medical assistance, and essential equipment. He noted that the collaborative response underscores the importance of solidarity in the face of climate‑driven disasters.
