Iron Man Community Bank Work Underway in Atlanta

Atlanta, November 1 - Work is underway on a proposed community bank in Atlanta that will be shaped by the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Community leader Dr. Vasudev Patel said the organizers are hoping to open the bank by April 2027.

Dr. Patel told IANS that the bank will be known as the 'Iron Man Unity Bank.' He said government formalities still need to be completed and indicated that the opening deadline is only an approximate estimate.

“It will open within six months,” he said. He also voiced hope that the outstanding formalities could be wrapped up by April 2027.

The bank's logo, Dr. Patel explained, will include a glimpse of the 'Statue of Unity.' It will be displayed on cheques and across other branding material.

The design is meant to help customers from different communities learn about Sardar Patel's contribution to uniting India. Dr. Patel said that people who see the logo are likely to ask questions, which will give the bank a chance to share that history.

He did not provide specific information in his statement regarding the bank's capital, ownership structure, or the government procedures that remain.

The proposal came up during an event at the Indian Consulate in Atlanta, where External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar unveiled a statue of Sardar Patel on 'National Unity Day.'

Dr. Patel, who heads the Federation of Gujarati Associations in the United States, said the statue was sponsored by the federation's national team.

Sardar Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India. He was instrumental in bringing princely states into the Indian Union, and his efforts and dedication led to his being known as the 'Iron Man of India.'

The 'Statue of Unity' in Gujarat was constructed in his memory. His birth anniversary, October 31, is observed each year as 'National Unity Day.'
