The display of power during the China Day parade in Beijing on September 3, 2025, sent a clear message. With leaders from over 20 countries, including Russia, North Korea, Brazil, and South Africa, standing alongside Xi Jinping, the event sparked questions. Was it simply a show of force, or was there a deeper message?
China is asserting itself as a political and ideological leader, not just an economic powerhouse. Xi Jinping stated during the parade, “We are working towards a future where all countries receive equal respect and have the right to development.” This statement, aimed not only at the domestic audience but also at the global stage, positions China against the US. Through initiatives like BRICS, SCO, and the Belt and Road Initiative, China has rapidly expanded its influence in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The SCO summit in 2024 saw Xi Jinping declaring, “The world is becoming multi-polar; the dominance of one country is no longer acceptable.” This was a direct message to the United States, signaling China’s desire for leadership, not just participation.
