New ISO terminology aims to cut costs and boost quality in metal heat treatment

Beijing, August 7 – The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has released a newly revised standard for heat treatment of iron‑based alloys, guided by Chinese leadership and supported by experts from Europe and Asia.

The standard codifies close to 300 specific terms related to the heat treatment of steel, raw iron and related materials. It provides a universal framework for industries such as automotive, aerospace, energy equipment and construction machinery, enabling smoother technical exchange, product testing and commercial validation.

By restructuring the terminology into nine core categories, the ISO document creates an integrated, multilingual glossary. This effort helps eliminate technical barriers, lower transaction expenses, and secure consistent product quality worldwide, fostering greater collaboration and innovation in the metal‑heat‑treatment sector.
