Israeli authorities have arrested five French activists following the interception of a ship carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot confirmed the arrests, stating the activists will face an Israeli judge. The ship, the Madleen, was carrying aid in international waters when it was intercepted and redirected to Ashdod port. One French national has agreed to voluntary departure, while the remaining five face forced expulsion. Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was also among the 12 international volunteers detained. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), the mission’s organizers, reported the Israeli military ‘attacked’ and ‘unlawfully boarded’ the ship, which was attempting to deliver essential supplies to Gaza, including baby formula, food, and medical supplies. Activists reported the ship was sprayed with a white substance, communications were jammed, and disturbing noises were broadcast.
