The Israeli military intercepted the sailboat ‘Madleen,’ carrying Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and other activists, early Monday. The vessel was en route to Gaza with supplies. The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed the interception and stated that the boat is now heading towards Israeli shores, with all onboard reported safe. Passengers were provided with provisions during the journey. The ‘Madleen’ was part of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla coalition and was carrying food and medical supplies. The Israeli Foreign Ministry emphasized that while the activists sought publicity, a significantly larger amount of aid has entered Gaza through established channels. Israeli authorities communicated with the vessel and instructed it to change course. The Gaza Freedom Flotilla Coalition reported the interception and alleged the use of irritant substances and jamming of communications. The IDF had anticipated intercepting the boat, which had sounded an alarm. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the order to stop the boat from reaching Gaza.
