In May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to Italy for a two‑day state visit that culminated in a series of agreements aimed at elevating the India‑Italy relationship to a Special Strategic Partnership level. Meetings with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella produced a joint declaration to institutionalise annual leader‑level dialogues, regular ministerial exchanges, and coordinated action in multilateral forums.

Both sides welcomed the accelerated pace of high‑level contacts and pledged to sustain momentum through continuous engagement. The agenda covered defence cooperation, renewable energy, technology transfer, and people‑to‑people ties, signalling a comprehensive approach to shared global challenges.
