External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, primarily focusing on the ongoing Ukraine conflict and its global implications. Jaishankar emphasized that India should not be unfairly targeted in relation to the conflict and reiterated the country’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred path forward. Valtonen highlighted the potential for strengthening trade relations between Finland, the European Union, and India, while also stressing the need for increased pressure on Russia to engage in genuine negotiations. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, addressing humanitarian issues and offering India’s full support for peace and stability. These discussions occurred against the backdrop of a recent emergency meeting at the United Nations Security Council following a deadly Russian attack on Ukraine. The attack resulted in civilian casualties, including children, and caused damage near the EU Delegation in Kyiv. Ukrainian officials reported numerous drone and missile launches, resulting in deaths. The events highlight a disregard for civilian lives and diplomatic missions.
