Kaushik’s Kathmandu trip highlights Indo‑Nepal military ties and pension support

KATHMANDU, Oct 11 – Lieutenant General Vireesh Pratap Singh Kaushik’s mission to Nepal serves as a reminder of the close military relationship that has existed between India and Nepal since the 1950s. While in Kathmandu, Kaushik will meet retired Indian soldiers, especially those from the historic Gurkha regiments, to evaluate the delivery of pension and welfare schemes.

According to the Indian diplomatic mission, the general will tour facilities used by pensioners and discuss the progress of benefit programs that include financial aid, health services, and family assistance. The embassy notes that more than 122,000 Indian Army retirees reside in Nepal, and various defence wing sections are working together to address their requirements.

The visit also comes after a recent high‑level exchange in August, when Indian Army Chief General Dheerej Seth met Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel. That meeting reinforced the tradition of granting each other honorary general titles, symbolising deep military cooperation.

Kaushik’s itinerary reflects India’s resolve to sustain these historic bonds while ensuring that the welfare of its former soldiers abroad remains a priority.
