Khan Bahadur Bhabha Hospital Suspends OPD Amid Controversy Over Medical Council Registrations

The outpatient department at Khan Bahadur Bhabha Hospital, located in Curla West, Mumbai, will be closed on Thursday, August 6, as part of a protest led by the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD). The closure aligns with larger demonstrations organized by the BMC against a new registration proposal for CCM‑P qualified BHMS doctors.

According to the association's letter, the proposed registration threatens the established benchmarks of contemporary medical education and could dilute the reliability of the Maharashtra Medical Council's credentialing system. The doctors contend that patient care quality would suffer if the new rule is implemented.

Despite the OPD shutdown, the hospital reassured the public that all emergency, trauma, intensive care, obstetric, and surgical services will operate without interruption. The institution stressed its commitment to patient welfare while supporting the doctors' cause.

MARD warned that the intensity of future actions will be dictated by the government's response. If the concerns are not adequately addressed, the association may pursue stronger legal and democratic measures to protect the standards of medical practice in the state.
