Kim Jong-un Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen Vietnam Relations

In a message dated September 2, Kim Jong-un celebrated Vietnam’s 81st National Day and pledged to elevate the bilateral partnership to “new heights.” The letter, circulated by the Korean Central News Agency, highlighted the progress made since the October 2025 Pyongyang summit between Kim and President To Lam.

Kim’s statement comes after a series of diplomatic exchanges, including a May 2024 visit by Vietnam’s foreign minister to the DPRK and a June security‑ministers’ meeting in Pyongyang that focused on public safety cooperation. Both sides view these steps as a foundation for broader engagement in trade, cultural exchange and regional security.

The renewed enthusiasm marks a significant shift from the limited contact that characterized the relationship in recent years.
