Nature is displaying its fury around the world. While Afghanistan faced the devastation of an earthquake, Sudan, an African nation, witnessed a catastrophic event. A landslide caused immense destruction. The Sudan Liberation Movement/Army reported on Monday that the landslide had caused the deaths of at least 1,000 people. The disaster was so severe that an entire village in the Marra mountain region of western Sudan was destroyed. This area is part of the Darfur region. Only one child survived.
The situation in Sudan is dire. The group led by Abdelwahid Mohamed Nour stated that the landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall. Torrential rains on August 31st led to the landslide, which completely wiped out a village, burying it under the earth. The movement/group controls the Darfur region. They have appealed to the United Nations and international aid agencies for assistance. Thousands of people, including men, women, and children, have perished in the landslide.
