Malaysia Hosts Indian Navy for Fourth ‘Samudra Lakshman’ Maritime Cooperation

Lumut, Malaysia – The Royal Malaysian Navy welcomed the Indian Navy’s INS Mysore for the fourth Samudra Lakshman exercise, a joint maritime training programme designed to boost cooperation and tactical familiarity.

The two forces will conduct harbour entry and exit drills, sea‑keeping manoeuvres and joint operational briefings. Visits aboard each other’s warships will provide senior officers the chance to examine platforms, discuss maintenance standards and exchange lessons learned from recent deployments.

The event follows the 12th India‑Malaysia Sub‑Committee meeting held in early July, which emphasized expanding defence collaboration and securing critical sea lanes. Both sides stressed that the drill is a concrete step toward a more integrated security architecture in the region.

Participants will also engage in recreational games and cultural exchanges, fostering personal bonds that translate into professional synergy. The cooperation aligns with India’s broader “Mahasagar” policy, which envisions a collaborative oceanic environment and supports the designation of 2026 as the ASEAN‑India Maritime Cooperation Year.
