Mass Syringe Attacks at French Music Festival: Over 140 People Targeted, Date-Rape Drugs Suspected

A disturbing wave of syringe attacks marred the recent Fête de la Musique, a nationwide music festival in France, leaving 145 people pricked with needles. The incidents occurred across multiple locations, with Paris alone reporting at least 13 cases. Authorities are investigating the possibility that date-rape drugs, such as Rohypnol or GHB, were used. Twelve individuals have been detained in connection with the attacks. The festival, which drew millions to the streets, saw unprecedented crowds in Paris, with police estimating attendance three to four times higher than usual. Some victims were taken to hospitals for toxicological testing.

The Interior Ministry confirmed that arrests had been made across France. Investigations are underway, including in Angoulême, where four suspects are believed to have targeted approximately 50 victims. Additionally, two men were arrested in Metz, with one found in possession of a syringe. The alleged victims in Metz are reportedly under 18. Authorities have noted that attackers often target the legs or buttocks. Reports from various cities, including Évreux, Rouen, and Tours, detail instances of young women experiencing syringe attacks during the festival.
