Mayor Wilson Calls Seattle ‘Reader City’ as Jaipur Festival Grows

In a welcoming remarks ceremony, Seattle Mayor Cathy Wilson celebrated the partnership between Jaipur’s "Pink City" and Seattle’s "Emerald City," labeling the collaboration a cultural milestone. She highlighted the library’s historic mission to bring people together through shared reading experiences.

Wilson noted that the Jaipur Literature Festival has swiftly become a cornerstone of Seattle’s cultural calendar, drawing writers, artists, scholars and students from across the Pacific Northwest. She stressed that festivals like JLF remind citizens that stories connect us, forging communal bonds.

The mayor emphasized that literature allows individuals to step outside their own experiences and imagine alternative lives, a skill essential in a world where AI increasingly mediates information. She called for open‑minded discussions in spaces where seats are free and minds are receptive.
