The remarks were made as India and the UK signed the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and endorsed India-UK Vision 2035.
PM Modi highlighted the historic significance of the day in India-UK relations, expressing pleasure at the conclusion of the CETA after years of effort. He described the agreement as a blueprint for shared prosperity, enhancing market access for Indian goods like textiles, footwear, and gems, while also opening opportunities for agricultural and processed food industries. The agreement is expected to particularly benefit India’s youth, farmers, fishermen, and the MSME sector.
Moreover, the agreement would make UK-made products, such as medical devices and aerospace components, more accessible to Indian consumers. A consensus on the Double Contribution Convention was also reached, intending to boost the service sectors of both nations, particularly in technology and finance. This is also expected to improve ease of doing business, reduce operational costs, and attract skilled Indian talent to the UK. These agreements are anticipated to boost bilateral investment and generate employment opportunities.
PM Modi emphasized that these agreements between two vibrant democracies would also contribute to global stability and shared prosperity.
