PM Modi’s Visit Marks First Belgian Prime Minister Trip in Two Decades

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Wever for a joint press briefing, marking the first visit by a Belgian head of government to India in twenty years.

De Wever remarked that the long interval between visits highlights the rapid changes India has undergone, especially under Modi’s tenure. He described the trip as “highly significant” for both sides.

Security and defence cooperation featured prominently in the dialogue. De Wever arrived with a delegation led by Defence and Foreign Trade Minister Theo Francken to discuss deeper collaboration between the armed forces and defence industries of the two nations.

A Letter of Intent exchanged during the meeting will lay the groundwork for expanded government‑to‑government contacts, joint research, innovation projects and, eventually, co‑production of defence equipment.
