Moldova and North Macedonia Host India’s President for Historic Bilateral Talks

From July 19 to 22, 2026, President Droupadi Murmu will travel to Chisinau, Moldova and Skopje, North Macedonia – marking the first ever presidential visits by an Indian head of state to both nations. The historic nature of the trips reflects India’s expanding engagement with Central and Eastern Europe.

In Moldova, President Murmu will meet President Maia Sandu, the Moldovan Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament. The agenda will focus on strengthening diplomatic ties that were formalised after Moldova opened its embassy in New Delhi in 2023. A bilateral dinner will be held in the President’s honour, and a joint business platform will highlight opportunities in digital technology, renewable energy, agriculture and health services.

The Moldovan delegation will also introduce President Murmu to members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Indian diaspora residing in the country, reinforcing people‑to‑people bonds.

The North Macedonian leg will follow a similar pattern. President Murmu will hold talks with President Stevo Pendarovski, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovačevski and the parliamentary speaker. The President’s visit comes after North Macedonia opened its embassy in New Delhi in 2008 and after the Macedonian prime minister’s visits to India in 2012 and 2015.

Both countries will host state dinners and business forums aimed at ushering in a new era of cooperation in trade, technology and tourism. The President will also address Indian business leaders and community members living abroad, underscoring India’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth across the region.
