Casualties Rise to 626 in Nepal Floods, Rescue Operations Intensify

The latest figures from Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority indicate that the death toll from the current flood disaster has climbed to 626, with approximately 2,500 individuals still unaccounted for. The flooding has devastated districts including Rasuwa, Chitwan, Dhadhing, Tanahun, Gorkha, Nuwakot and East Nawalparasi, where rescue teams continue to recover bodies and locate survivors.

Meteorological experts and glaciologists are analysing the sudden rise in water levels, attributing it to unexpected glacial melt and intense rainfall. The Nepalese army, alongside civilian volunteers, has launched a series of aerial rescue missions targeting hotspots such as Rasuwa, Timure, Trishuli and Dhunche.

In parallel, international aid, notably from India, has bolstered the relief effort with food, medical supplies and specialized rescue personnel. The coordinated response aims to provide immediate assistance to flood victims while establishing longer‑term measures to mitigate future disaster risks.
