Rescue operations intensify as Nepal’s flood claims lives and leaves many tourists lost

The Nepal Tourism Board disclosed on Wednesday that flash floods have rendered 644 tourists missing after rivers Bhote Koshi and Trishuli overflowed. The tally includes 517 foreign tourists and 127 Nepalese citizens. Indians top the list with 178 missing, while the United States reports 65 absent travelers and Ukraine 53. The disaster hit the districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha, where roadways have collapsed and weather conditions remain hazardous. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, alongside the tourist police and regional authorities, are conducting intensive search‑and‑rescue missions. The Nepalese army successfully evacuated 116 individuals from Timure in Rasuwa, among them 21 Indians, on Thursday morning. Efforts continue to locate and assist those trapped or injured.
