Nepal Hosts Indian Foreign Secretary Ahead of PM Visit

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has commenced a two-day official visit to Kathmandu, starting Wednesday. His arrival was formally received at the airport by Indian Ambassador Sudhakar Deal and top bureaucrats from Nepal’s foreign affairs department.

The diplomatic trip, running through November 5, serves as a strategic precursor to Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s planned state visit to India. Joint statements released on Monday by both foreign ministries confirmed the schedule and outlined the agenda.

Misri will conduct high-level bilateral talks with Nepali Foreign Secretary Amit Bahadur Rai. The engagements will involve a thorough examination of historical and contemporary cooperation, with both sides committed to exchanging views on mutual priorities to enhance longstanding friendly relations.

The Indian external affairs ministry emphasized that the discussions will also address broader regional and global challenges. This diplomatic mission underscores a continued commitment to structured high-level communication, paving the way for deeper multilateral and bilateral collaboration.

A major focus remains on optimizing the upcoming Delhi trip for Prime Minister Shah. Nepalan officials have stressed the importance of achieving measurable results across several key areas. These include securing substantial post-flood rehabilitation support following the August 26 disaster, concluding ongoing boundary negotiations, and modernizing the cross-border trade framework.

Furthermore, Nepal advocates for the establishment of additional international flight transit hubs accessible via India. The leadership exchange is expected to feature the inauguration of numerous collaborative projects, signaling a renewed push for tangible development outcomes.
