Beyond convenience, the new system is intended to strengthen security oversight. Nepal’s immigration authorities already operate the Foreign Nationals Management Information System (FNMIS), a nationwide digital database that records every visa application and exit. By integrating the passport‑free app with FNMIS, officials gain real‑time visibility of each foreign national’s movements across hotels, airlines and travel agencies. Over 1,652 service providers have enrolled so far, covering more than 180,000 foreign visitors. The department noted that such comprehensive tracking could have prevented incidents like the disappearance of tourists after the August 26 floods, had the data been fully linked.
