Rescue Efforts and Losses After Nepal’s Record Floods

Rescue teams from the Likhu Rural Municipality, led by Mbaraj Thapa, arrived on the scene to pull survivors from rooftops and retrieve belongings from flooded homes. The crew, numbering 250 volunteers, has so far cleared four houses and plans to continue operations throughout the day, with a follow‑up cleanup scheduled for the nearby Devegahat area tomorrow. Officials described the scene as "beyond comprehension," noting that bodies recovered were severely decomposed, making identification difficult. The humanitarian response focuses now on providing shelter, food and medical aid to those who lost everything.
