All airports across Nepal, including Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, are closed until 12 PM on Wednesday. This decision, announced by airport authorities, led to the suspension of all flights starting from 2 PM on Tuesday due to escalating unrest. Consequently, numerous passengers have been stranded both within Nepal and in other countries, with all takeoffs and landings ceasing since the afternoon of September 9th. To ensure security, the Nepali Army has taken command both inside and outside the airport premises.
Authorities will evaluate the situation before determining when to reopen the airport after Wednesday noon. The Nepali Army has assumed control of security operations at Tribhuvan International Airport. “We are assured about overall security. But given the current situation, we cannot fully guarantee the safety of planes and passengers,” General Manager of the Tribhuvan International Airport said.
Buddha Air, a Nepali airline, has also announced that its operations will be impacted on Wednesday and offered apologies for any inconvenience. They have stated that they will provide regular updates regarding flight schedules and relevant information.
Meanwhile, Indian airlines, IndiGo and SpiceJet, have issued travel advisories indicating the suspension of their flights to and from Kathmandu.
