Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN Security Council with a QR code affixed to his suit. The QR code, prominently displayed, sparked curiosity and dominated news headlines. The link directed viewers to a website documenting the atrocities of October 7th. Other Israeli delegates present at the assembly also wore the code. This initiative was part of a public diplomacy effort in New York, with the QR code and the message ‘Remember October 7th’ displayed on billboards, trucks, and digital screens near the UN headquarters and Times Square. This effort aimed to influence American public perception, particularly amidst ongoing protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza. During his address, Netanyahu directly addressed the Israeli hostages held in Gaza via loudspeaker. He delivered his speech in Hebrew and then English, stating, “Our brave heroes (hostages), I am Prime Minister Netanyahu, speaking to you directly from the United Nations. We have not forgotten you for a moment. The people of Israel are with you.” Netanyahu emphasized his determination to continue efforts until all hostages were returned. He also mentioned that his speech was being broadcast live on the mobile phones of the residents of Gaza, expressing gratitude to his intelligence agency for this. Many delegates walked out of the hall as Netanyahu took the stage in protest of Israel’s actions in Gaza, but the Israeli delegation applauded his speech.
