NEV Share Hits 48% of China’s New Car Sales, New 5‑Year Plan Outlines Steps

Beijing, 26 August – The latest five‑year roadmap for China’s new‑energy vehicle (NEV) industry sets out a comprehensive agenda to sustain the sector’s rapid ascent. Between 2021 and 2025, NEV output ballooned from one million to over ten million units, and yearly sales jumped from 1.367 million to roughly 16.49 million. Consequently, NEVs now represent 47.9 % of all newly sold cars, up from a modest 5.4 % at the start of the period.

China’s dominance extends beyond the domestic market: it supplies more than 70 % of global NEV, battery and essential raw‑material production, and its vehicles reach buyers in more than a hundred nations.

The 15th Five‑Year Plan will focus on three pillars: enhancing product quality and safety for autonomous driving, accelerating smart‑connected vehicle pilot projects, and upgrading charging infrastructure and ancillary services. Regulators plan to tighten oversight, bolster quality inspections, safeguard consumer rights and ensure fair competition among manufacturers.

Internationally, China aims to deepen bilateral and multilateral partnerships, align with global standards, and facilitate cross‑border logistics and investment to cement its influence in the worldwide automotive shift.
