No Agreement on Exporting Enriched Uranium: Iran Clarifies

Iran has categorically denied reports suggesting it has consented to remove enriched uranium from its territory. The denial came after a Saudi news outlet claimed that Tehran was open to such a move as part of potential talks with Washington. Iranian state media labeled the claim inaccurate and misleading. Tasnim News Agency reported that the draft memorandum currently being discussed contains no clause requiring Iran to export nuclear material. Officials emphasized that no fresh pledges have been made concerning nuclear activities and rejected the notion that any such condition had been accepted. The disputed report originated from Saudi channel Al Hadath, which alleged ongoing negotiations could result in Iran agreeing to ship out high-enriched uranium. Iranian sources described the narrative as an attempt to apply psychological pressure during sensitive diplomatic exchanges. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, reinforced the country’s stance in a national address, stating that Iran will not back down. He urged greater internal solidarity to counter external challenges from the United States and Israel. Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei indicated that negotiators are aiming to finalize a 14-point framework before pursuing a comprehensive deal. The proposed terms reportedly address ending naval encirclement, stopping maritime attacks, and unlocking frozen assets held abroad. These statements follow weeks of indirect diplomacy after the April 8 ceasefire that concluded a 40-day conflict. Earlier talks in Islamabad produced no breakthrough, though both sides continue to exchange proposals.
