NY mayor urged to protect attendees of RSS chief's event amid security concerns

Mayor Eric Adams has been petitioned by two Hindu‑American bodies to guarantee the safety of everyone expected at the RSS chief’s gathering in Madison Square Garden on August 29. Both organisations warned that protests are being organised against the event and that some factions are attempting to force a cancellation.

The Hindu American Foundation posted a notice on X, urging participants to stay vigilant, watch the crowd and behave courteously. It asked the mayor to fulfil his responsibility by safeguarding residents, visitors and the civil liberties of those present. No specific intelligence on a threat has been released, nor have police confirmed any imminent risk.

The advisory reminded the public to honour the right of others to demonstrate and voice opinions, while avoiding any altercations with persons making hostile or provocative comments. If anyone feels unsafe, they should leave the vicinity and contact security staff or the police, using 911 for emergencies.

HAF appealed for prompt reporting of any intimidation, vandalism, hate‑based incidents or other crimes to security teams or law‑enforcement agencies. It also advised Hindu temples and community centres throughout New York to adopt heightened security protocols for major events.
